You will need to select an organisational failure that occurred in the last two years. After
identifying a failure, your task is to identify organisational behaviour theories, concepts, and
ideas that best explain the cause of the failure, and then to evaluate what the organisation did
to recover from the failure.
The assignment should contain the following elements:
1. Identification of the failure and context: Describe what happened, the context in
which it occurred, and the consequences for the organisation’s stakeholders. This
section is meant to provide context for the failure. It should explain who was affected
and how, or how it disadvantages the organisation and/or its members, or other
stakeholders. (5 marks; 250 words max.)
2. Analysis of organisational behaviour factors: Building on this description, identify,
analyse, and discuss in detail 1 to 3 organisational behaviour theories, concepts, and
ideas that contributed to the problem / failure. These may be individual, group, or
organisational level factors. (15 marks; 750 words max.)
3. Consideration of response / consequence of ignoring failure: Describe what the
organisation did to achieve success or post-failure to address the problem and/or
prevent a reoccurrence of the problem. Evaluate the effectiveness of the
organisation’s response to the failure, from the perspective organisational theories,
concepts, and ideas. If the organisation did not address the failure, describe the long-
term consequences for ignoring the failure. (10 marks; 500 words max.)

4. Recommendations: Make recommendations for what could have been done better
and/or moving forward in response to the organisational theories, concepts, and ideas
issues identified. In making these recommendations, ensure that it is pragmatic and
specific (i.e., make recommendations that are viable and within the organisation’s
capacity to implement). (10 marks; 500 words max.)
