这是一篇来自英国的关于无绳轮胎充气装置的综合工程设计作业代写

Part 1 of this assignment is to be conducted in groups of four. You may self-select these and inform me by 23.59 on Friday 13th of January 2023. After that date, I will allocate groups.

Part 2 of this assignment is to be conducted individually.

Design Brief:

You are required to design a cordless tyre inflator. It is primarily for domestic use in maintaining car and motorcycle tyres, but you may want to consider other reasonable applications when you design it.

(Alternatively, you may choose to design the tyre inflator for a small car dealership. Do not spend time deciding for which context you are designing; neither is easier or more difficult to design, it simply changes some of the choices you might make later for an optimal design.)

As this is essentially a Mechanical Engineering course, you are asked to cover all the electromechanical aspects of the design, i.e., electrical (battery and motor) and mechanical (pump, casing, etc.).

You are not required to design any electronic aspects (controller, display, etc). However, you are expected to specify any electronics that your product may use (in terms of required inputs and outputs, etc.) such that an electronics engineer could develop these components to meet your requirements. You are, however, expected to make a reasonable estimate of the size of these components (circuit board, etc.) and make suitable provisions for them within your design.

The main group design activities are expected to include (but not necessarily be limited to) the following:

  • Development of an initial PDS from this design brief.
  • Undertaking a Quality Function Deployment exercise.
  • Conceptual and embodiment design, including all aspects of design for assembly appropriate to these design stages.
  • All necessary engineering activities to establish appropriate product embodiment and detail design, (including ‘bought-in’ component selection, such as the motor).
  • Production of schematic and graphical representations of the final product embodiment.

Note that you may wish to agree on individual responsibilities for leading each of the above activities, but they are generally all activities that benefit from group input and should not be undertaken as solo exercises.

You should have regular ‘formal’ group meetings and keep ‘minutes’ of the discussions and decisions. These ‘formal’ meetings may simply be ten minutes at the end of less formal design sessions. The minutes of these should be submitted as an appendix to the group report.

The individual design activities you are expected to include (but not necessarily be limited to) the following:

  • Detail design of a selected singlecomponent of your tyre inflator, with particular attention to aspects of design for manufacture and assembly appropriate to this design stage.
  • Undertaking a DesignFMEA on your proposed component design.
  • Consideration of reliability using probabilistic design techniques.
  • Creation of a manufacturing drawing to BS8888/ISO standards for your component

Note that each team member should undertake the design of a different component. In total, your team will thus only complete the detailed design for as many components as there are team members. (i.e., there is no need to complete the detailed design of every component.)

Deciding precisely what you choose to undertake to support your design process is part of the assignment, and I make no apology for not being too prescriptive. The purpose of tutorials is to support you in those decisions.

Activities that are not part of this assignment:

Marketing is not part of this assignment. You should make reasonable assumptions about any information (requirements, constraints, etc.) that might normally be obtained from marketing. How you develop your design to meet these requirements and constraints is a marking criterion but obtaining this information through marketing is not. Do not spend time undertaking marketing activities.

In-depth ergonomics is not part of this assignment, though basic ergonomics about size, weight, etc. should be taken into consideration.

Aesthetics are not one of the marking criteria in this assignment.

You may use CAD tools to present your design, but the assignment is not a CAD assignment.  It is perfectly acceptable to use hand-sketched drawings to help communicate your design, and you will not be penalised for this. (Indeed, on the contrary, hand-sketching is a very useful skill for both engineers and designers to quickly communicate ideas, and practicing this skill is positively encourage.)

Part 1 Group Deliverables

Submission Date: 23rd February 2023, 12:00 Noon

Electronic submission to Moodle

  • A formal group report
    • Guideline 5000 words/12 pages including figures.
  • 50% of your final mark will be derived from this group report. The report should contain your PDS, a QFD exercise, concept development, (including sketches), and appropriate aspects of Design for Assembly.
  • This will also be subject to an element of peer assessment, (limited to a maximum of +/- 2 sub-grades adjustment of the tutor-awarded mark, and typically expected to be less than this in a well-organised group).

Submission Date: 2nd March 2023, 9:00-12:00

Live presentation in the tutorial slot (zoom options available the same day)

  • An MS PowerPoint Presentation outlining your group’s work/design
    • Presentation: 5 slides/6 minutes maximum.
    • All team members must present
    • 10% of total assignment mark.

Part 2 Individual Deliverables

Submission Date: 18th April 2023

  • A formal individual report
    • Guideline 1500 words plus figures and tables.
  • 40% of your final mark will be derived from this individual report. The report should contain discussion of your detail design work, (including probabilistic design considerations), a Design FMEA and a manufacturing drawing of your selected component.
