You decided to take a loan. The loan amount is 60,000 USD. You know that you will have to pay 1000
USD in the beginning of each month, over 7 years. What will be the nominal interest rate?
#14
Staying with the same example, what happens if we modify some parameters? Let’s say the
payment is 10 times smaller, i.e. 100 USD monthly. What can we see? Or let’s decide that there
should be only 2 payments. How can you interpret the result? Or even better – only 1 payment in
total. Does it make much sense?
Finally, how high should be a single payment to set the rate exactly to 0?

Suppose that you’ve got 1,000,000 USD and no idea what to do with it. Thus, someone has you
offered two options of 20-year investment, with annual capitalisation.
 First offer: it starts with a very modest interest rate 1%, but rises by 2 percentage points each
year of investment.
 Second offer: the interest rate is constant throughout whole the period of investment: 20%.
Which offer should you choose?

A bill with face value 100,000 USD and maturity of 9 months has to be replaced with an equivalent
bill with maturity of 11 months. The nominal discount rate is 16%. What will be the face value of the
replacement?
